Fin Flutter

A new project for the year involves research into the phenomenon known as fin flutter. Little is known on the subject and it often occurs in high powered rocketry when aerodynamic forces act on flight surfaces at certain frequencies matching that of the natural frequency for the structure leading to fin destruction known as "shredding." Goals for this project include researching and learning about current knowledge on the subject, modeling fin structures for analysis, conducting vibration table, wind tunnel, and in flight experiments to observe and analyze the phenomenon to determine methods of reducing or preventing its occurrence.
